History of Santa Maria de Vallvidrera
In the 13th century, Santa Maria was split off and became an independent parish, and in the 16th century the current building was built, with a single nave and a polygonal apse, which is flanked by a square-shaped bell tower, probably of the same time. The adjacent cemetery is another singular space: it is one of the only two parish cemeteries that are still preserved in Barcelona.
The church on the mountain
The church also gives its name to a whole leisure area surrounded by nature, the area of Santa Maria de Vallvidrera, a place of great beauty inside the natural park, where you can walk, eat and enjoy the forest and the architectural heritage of this municipality.
A mountain village
Despite the numerous communication routes that have been opened between the city and the old town of Vallvidrera, this is still a mountain town, quiet and far from the hubbub of the big city.
