Vil·la Joana - Verdaguer House-Museum: A trip to the past of the poet Jacint Verdaguer

If you are a lover of Catalan literature and are looking for a place full of history and culture, then you cannot miss Vil·la Joana - Museo-Casa Verdaguer. Located in the province of Barcelona, this museum pays tribute to the poet Jacint Verdaguer, one of the greatest exponents of the Catalan Renaixença.

The house of a poet

Vil·la Joana is an imposing-looking old farmhouse, built during the 18th century and later transformed into a neoclassical-style residential house. It is located on the Església road, in the middle of the nature of the Collserola park. This mansion was chosen by Jacint Verdaguer, suffering from tuberculosis, as his place of residence during the last years of his life.

Years after the poet's death in 1902, the Barcelona City Council acquired Vil·la Joana in 1920. This is how this mansion became the Verdaguer House Museum, forming part of the network of heritage spaces of the History Museum of Barcelona (MUHBA).

In memory of the poet

Vil·la Joana preserves the essence of Jacint Verdaguer's stay, keeping intact the rooms occupied by the poet. Although the house is currently being remodeled and you can only visit the ground floor, you can still see some memories of the author of "Canigó" and "L'Atlàntida".

The museum houses Verdaguer's valuable personal objects, such as his writing table, his office, and his bedroom, located in the gallery of the house. These spaces allow you to immerse yourself in the poet's daily life and his creative process.

Walking around the Vil·la Joana estate is also an opportunity to delve into the natural environment that inspired Verdaguer. The poet was a great connoisseur of plants and trees, so enjoying the natural poetry that surrounds the house is a unique experience.

Although the exhibition is currently closed for renovation, the museum continues to offer visits to the ground floor, where visitors can learn about Verdaguer's history and his literary legacy.

If you are a lover of culture and history, Vil·la Joana - Museo-Casa Verdaguer is an essential destination on your visit to Barcelona. Not only will you be able to learn more about one of the most important Catalan poets, but you will also be able to enjoy the beauty of the natural environment that captivated Verdaguer and inspired him in his literary work.
