L'Estany: The charming town in the heart of Moianès
Welcome to the Pond! It is a town with a privileged location in the north of the center of the Moianès region, on the edge of where there had been a pond that gave the town its name. Since the creation of the county in 2015, l'Estany has become the head of the municipality and has left behind its membership in the Bages county.
A story in contact with nature
L'Estany has a rich history related to its location in a disappeared lake basin. For centuries, the lake's waters were a prehistoric hunting ground, and it was even accused of being unsanitary. In 1554, the abbot Carles de Cardona ordered the expansion of the irrigation system and canals to prevent diseases and expand the farmland. Currently, this allows the pond to still fill up again in times of heavy rain, giving a special charm to the landscape.
Discover the Estany mine
One of the most unique attractions of l'Estany is the mine, a dry stone construction that was built between 1734 and 1737. With a length of 425 meters and a barrel vault that covers 390 of these meters, the mine is a witness to the history of the town and the importance of water in its culture. A walk through this construction will transport you back in time and you will have the opportunity to learn the secrets of this unique environment.
An impressive nature to discover
In addition to its historical richness, the Lake offers an impressive natural environment to explore. To the west of the town, there is a very rugged orographic area formed by the valleys of the Gomis torrent and the Sec river, which feed the Malrubí creek and, through it, the Llobregat river. These valleys offer an impressive landscape full of idyllic corners to enjoy nature and carry out outdoor activities such as hiking and cycling.
If you are a lover of nature and history, l'Estany is a perfect destination for your next vacation. Immerse yourself in its picturesque landscape, discover its history and connect with the tranquility of this charming town in the heart of Moianès.
