Torre Baró is a neighborhood in the Nou Barris district of the city of Barcelona. Located in the Collserola mountain range, it is considered one of the most unique neighborhoods in the area. This picturesque enclave emerged in the mid-20th century as a result of different urbanization initiatives in the form of a garden city that, unfortunately, did not prosper. Instead of becoming a residential area as planned, Torre Baró became a self-built neighborhood to meet the housing needs of people arriving from other parts of the Iberian Peninsula during the 1950s and 1960s.
The history of Torre Baró
One of the most notable features of Torre Baró is the unfinished construction of the castle of the same name, which stands at the top of the mountain range. Originally, this castle was intended to become a hotel within the residential development project. However, the name of the neighborhood comes from the old tower called Torre del Baró, built in the 16th century by the Pinós family. Unfortunately, it was destroyed in 1714. Later, a second tower was built in the same place in 1797, but it was demolished in 1967 to make way for the construction of the Meridiana.
